Floot Fire Solo Competitions

Open to Floot Fire Plano and Floot Immersion!
(You are not required to play in the Solo Competition to attend the Floot Fire camps.)

General Information
The Floot Fire Solo Competition is open to participants in Floot Fire Plano and Floot Immersion and consists of a preliminary round (held on June 11, 2011) and a final round (held on June 15, 2011.)  Both rounds will be held at Custer Road United Methodist Church in Plano.

Eligibility
All entrants to the Solo Competition:

  • Must plan to continue music at the university level in some capacity.
  • Must register for and attend one of the Floot Fire 2012 Plano or Floot Immersion.
  • Must submit a written teacher recommendation by the application deadline June 03, 2011.  A place for the recommendation is included in the printable registration form.  If registering online, print and mail your Teacher Recommendation Form.  If you are mailing in a paper-copy application form, a place for the teacher recommendation is included in the Printable Application Form.
  • Must enter the appropriate division (must graduate this year from a grade relevant to that Division)  Students may choose to perform one level higher.
    • Senior - 10th grade or higher
    • Junior - 7th, 8th or 9th grade
    • Elementary - 6th grade or lower (sponsored by Claire Johnson)

Senior Division
  • 1st Prize - $1000
  • 2nd Prize - $500
  • 3rd Prize - $200
Junior Division
  • 1st Prize - $150
  • 2nd Prize - $100
  • 3rd Prize - $50
Elementary Division
  • 1st Prize - $50 and Trophy
  • 2nd Prize - $40 and Trophy
  • 3rd Prize - $25 and Trophy

Note: Floot Fire reserves the right not to pick a 1st place winner in all divisions.

Repertoire
Student must perform a piece for flute with piano accompaniment for the contest.  During the preliminary audition, each student will perform 6 minutes of his or her piece.  (Make cuts if necessary.)

Accompanists
Entrants are required to either arrange for their own accompanist or request a Floot Fire accompanist on the application form.  If a Floot Fire accompanist is requested, a $40.00 accompanist fee must be included with the application.

Dates & Location

June 11, 2011

Preliminary auditions for both camps in Plano
Each contestant will perform six (6) minutes of their solo (make cuts if necessary.)

June 15, 2011

Finalists perform in recital in Plano.

Location: Both preliminary auditions and the final recital will take place at Custer Road United Methodist Church, located at 6601 Custer Rd., Plano, TX  75023.

Fees
A non-refundable entry fee of $40.00 is required of all Solo Competition participants.  In addition, if a Floot Fire accompanist is requested, an accompanist fee of $40.00 must be submitted with the Floot Fire/Solo Entry application.

Note:  Your Floot Fire application (and Solo Competition entry) must be accompanied by a $50.00 non-refundable deposit (credited toward tuition), your Solo Competition Entry fee ($40.00), and your accompanist fee ($40.00, if applicable).  Mail your teacher recommendation form if registering online.  The recommendation form is included in the printable application.

Payment may be made by check (payable to FLOOT FIRE, Inc.) or by credit card.  Credit cards are only accepted through PayPal, a secure online payment system, and should be made using our online application.
